Jacob Levy In 1881 Jacob Levy was listed as living at 11 Fieldgate Street, Whitechapel, with his wife Sarah, and their two children. In 1886 he was committed to the Essex County asylum after complaining of hearing strange noises and saying that he felt compelled to do acts that his conscience could not stand, he also felt that if he was not restrained, he will do acts of violence to someone.

The Levites, descendants of Jacob ’s son Levi, were selected to serve G‑d in the Holy Temple. Most served in peripheral roles, playing music, opening and closing the gates, and standing guard.

The Bible records him as the third son of Jacob coming after Reuben and Simeon. According to Jewish tradition, he was given this name because Leah wanted Jacob to be attached to her. Levi, one of the twelve sons of Israel (Jacob), became the head of one of the twelve tribes of Israel. As mentioned above, Levi’s tribe in particular had a number of important religious tasks and Jacob Levi.
